Certifications
Welcome to the certifications page of my portfolio. Here you’ll find what I did to receive my Level 1 and Level 2 certifications in gamification. Highlighted are the requirements, sample images, and links to the certification organization’s portfolio page where both of my submissions are showcased.
Level 1 Gamification Surveyor
Description:
The Level 1 Surveyor certification from Sententia Gamification provides introductory training in the fundamentals and understanding of the 5 step gamification process. In addition, we learned how to apply the process to corporate training. During the certification training teams were assigned and worked together to submit a final prototype for evaluation and certification. The topic covered was a Stress Management training course. Our team settled on creating a game based on the folklore of the 3 Musketeers. In our game design, the learner had to help a prisoner escape the Bastille prison and remove the iron mask. My job on the team was to develop the visuals for the game. To do this, I used my experience in the Adobe Creative suite to complete all the visuals and then added them to a PowerPoint slide deck for final submission.

Level 2 Gamification Journeyman
Description:
The Level 2 Gamification Journeyman certification from Sententia Gamification builds on the Level 1 certification diving deeper into persona building, measuring ROI, and creating player journeys, all while meeting business objectives. During this phase of the certification, there were both team and individual exercises. However, the final assignment for certification consideration was individual-based.
I chose to create an Escape Room game based on Laboratory Hazard Recognition. I was responsible for all aspects of digital storytelling (e.g., learner persona, plot, dialogue, interactions, etc.) In addition, I had to determine which game mechanics to incorporate.
The game was designed with word searches, seek and find, and codes. The premise for the gameplay is that Dr. McEeval’s projects were always rejected. He has an evil plan to get even with everyone who rejected him and then some. To win the game, you have to stop Dr. McEeval before he unleashes his diabolical plan.
The character, lab items, and background scenes were created and exported from the Vyond animation software. Any of the saved images needing to be manipulated were done in Snagit or Photoshop, then imported into my Balsamiq wireframe tool. The wireframing tool allowed me to simulate screen interactions the learner might experience during gameplay. After the game layout and interactions were complete, I exported Escape Lab to an interactive PDF as a low-fidelity wireframe.
